The Oakwood football Eagles won their third game in a row Wednesday night to finish their 2008 season with a 6-2 record. After a scoreless first half, the Eagles got on board in the third quarter with a pretty pass from QB Peter Brown to FB Vince Cuenot. The crucial two point conversion was added by RB Bryan Wilkins on a tough, physical run. In the 4th quarter, RB Josh Lever put the Eagles ahead for good on a 50 yard scamper. WR Matt Moore and Tony King both added big first down catches to aid the Eagles’ offense.
Defensively, Oakwood was led by a host of Eagles who shut down the Perry offense. LB Raymond Wesley had a huge interception in the fourth quarter. Defensive backs Jurante Robinson and Tony King played well and made several key stops.
Jake Carr and Andrew Pileggi played well in 5th quarter action.
The Oakwood football coaching staff is extremely proud of the effort, on and off the field, by the team this season. They made quite a turn-around from last season and have done a great job living out our theme for 2008: “Players Built For Others.”
The Oakwood Eagles improved their record to 5-2 as they defeated Glenwood 22-0 on Tuesday night. This is the third defensive shut-out for Oakwood this season. Oakwood’s defensive had a huge goal- line stand just before half time to keep the score tied 0-0 at the midway point.
Oakwood got on the board in the second half on TD runs by Bryan Wilkins. The offensive line opened huge holes for Wilkins and he provided the tough running. Josh Lever also ran the ball hard and provided a key 2 point conversion.
The Oakwood defense also scored some points as free saftey Peter Brown intercepted a Glenwood pass and returned it for a TD. Alec Bondarenko and Nick Williams also had interceptions for the Oakwood D. Patrick Benson had a great game at defensive tackle.
Robby Schweitzer, Brandon Abdulla and Keith Nagel played well in the 5th quarter action.
The Oakwood football team and coaching staff would like to thank the Spirit Club and Cheerleaders for supporting the team and helping to lead us to victory!
The season is not over yet. We have practice tomorrow after school and another game next week against Perry.
Tomorrow’s Oakwood vs Glenwood game has been dubbed “The Middle School Classic.” This game will be a blast for both schools and all of the players and cheerleaders involved. Next year, the players will be teammates at GlenOak High School, but tomorrow they are in competition with each other. It should be a tough, well played game. I am excited to see how everyone plays. Here are a few important reminders about tomorrow’s game:
All Oakwood players will be fed directly after school.
Players will ride a bus over to GlenOak (before the game starts) and take all of their books and other school materials needed.
There will be a 5th quarter at the end of the game to ensure that everyone on the team gets playing time.
There will be pizza for the players of Glenwood and Oakwood after the game.
Players need to be picked up at GlenOak high school after the game tomorrow.
It should be a great atmosphere for the players and a lot of fun. Hope you can come out and watch!
The boys did a nice job living out our theme for 2008: “Built for others.” As a team, we helped to serve the Canton Calvary Mission. It was a great time!
The Oakwood Eagles lost their last B game of the season against Lake Middle School. Defensively, the Eagles were led by Brandon Abdulla who tackled well and recovered a fumble. Robby Schweitzer and Jake Carr also played well defensively. Denell Dotson had several nice runs from the tailback spot.
The Oakwood Eagles improved their record to 4-2 tonight by blanking Lake Middle School 14-0. All week long we talked about “Creating Memories.” Tonight, Oakwood created some special memories by putting together a nice team effort and getting a win on their new scoreboard.
Josh Lever opened the scoring with a long touchdown run on an end around play in the first half. The Oakwood defense added some points with a 3rd quarter safety on a blocked punt by Patrick Benson. The final touchdown came on a long punt return for a TD by Peter Brown. The offensive line, led by Jacob McGee, Cody Dalton, Blake Gammill, Bryce Matthews, Isaiah Bryant and Raymond Wesley, played tough, physical football.
Defensively, the Eagles pitched another shutout and were led by defensive back Jeronte Robinson who had a big interception and several physical tackles. Other key defensive players who helped hold the Blue Streaks scoreless were: Tony King, Jay Harris, Nick Williams, Matt More, Peter Brown, Daniel Dorman, Raymond Wesley, Josh Lever, Alec Bondarenko, Jared Withers, Bryan Wilkins, Patrick Benson, Preston Elavsky and Isaiah Bryant.
Oakwood plays Lake again in B game action Thursday night. The game will be played at the Lake Youth Football Field. Directions can be found by clicking here.
Our theme for the 2008 season is: “Built for Others.”It’s our desire to instill the value of selflessness among our players. My desire as a coach is to work towards building good people for the future.I am more interested in creating good husbands, fathers, mothers, teachers, business men etc.I hope that what we have taught and valued this season has had an impact on your child.
On Saturday, October 4, 2008, we will have a chance to live out our theme (Built for Others) as a team. From 9am-noon, players are invited to participate in a service project at the Canton Calvary Mission.
We are so lucky to have people who care about the Oakwood Football Program. Our 2008 team theme has been “built for others.” It’s our desire to create a team of players who strive to live selflessly on and off the field. Well, we had a chance to witness people, who are built for others, first hand this week. A few anonymous people decided that we needed a scoreboard at our home field. In a complete act of kindness, they created a beautiful scoreboard that makes our field complete. Thanks so much for caring about the players and being a living example of all that we try to teach our team. We’re all looking forward to putting together a lot of wins on this new scoreboard.
Thanks!
